How To Build A Monochrome Wardrobe

A short guide from our head buyer — read this before your first order

Start with three black anchors

Pick one jacket, one bottom, and one shoe in black before adding anything else. A Nuptse, a pair of 501s in raw indigo (reads near-black), and a clean sneaker will outfit you for an entire season. Everything else layers from there.

Mind the texture, not just the color

Wearing all-black falls flat if every piece is the same flat cotton. Mix matte canvas with brushed fleece, dense knit with slick nylon. The Patagonia Better Sweater next to the Carhartt Active Jacket is a perfect texture pairing — same palette, totally different surface.

Size up on outerwear, true-to-size on bottoms

Sculptural cuts need room to drape. We recommend going up one size on Nuptse and Active Jacket if you plan to layer a hoodie underneath. Bottoms — especially 501s — should be your standard size and will relax half a size after the first wash.

Invest in the base layer

Uniqlo Heattech under everything from October to March. It's the cheapest piece in the rotation and the one that makes the rest of the wardrobe wearable in real weather. Buy two so you always have a clean one.

Resole, don't replace

An Air Max 90 or a pair of New Balance 550s will outlast their soles by years if you take them to a cobbler. We have a list of recommended shops in NYC, LA, and London — email us and we'll send it.

Do you carry true blacks or are most pieces faded/washed?

Both, and we label them clearly. Pieces marked 'jet black' are dyed to stay dark through 50+ washes. 'Soft black' and 'washed black' pieces are intentionally faded and will keep softening over time. Check the product page detail tab for the exact dye spec.

What's your return policy on worn items?

Returns within 30 days on unworn items with tags. We don't accept returns on washed or visibly worn pieces, but if there's a manufacturing defect within 12 months, email us with a photo and we'll either repair or replace. We mean it.

How does sizing run on the outerwear?

Carhartt and Nuptse both run boxy and slightly oversized — go true to your chest measurement, not your usual size. The Patagonia Better Sweater is more fitted, closer to a standard knit sweater. We list chest, shoulder, and length in cm on every product page.

Do you restock sold-out sizes?

We restock core pieces (501s, Air Max 90, Better Sweater, Heattech) every 4-6 weeks. Seasonal pieces like the Nuptse usually don't restock once a colorway sells through. Hit the 'notify me' button on the product page for an email when it's back.

Where do you ship and how long does it take?

We ship worldwide. US: 2-4 business days standard, next-day available. EU/UK: 3-7 business days, duties included in checkout. Rest of world: 7-14 days, duties calculated at customs. All orders over $150 ship free.

Yes — we source directly from brand wholesale accounts and authorized distributors. Every order includes original packaging, tags, and where applicable, brand authenticity cards. If you ever doubt a piece, send photos and we'll authenticate it for you.
